Orlando Pirates vs Cape Town City Player Ratings: Patosi Brilliant

Orlando Pirates will be very disappointed at their efforts to go second on the log as the sea robbers threw away a 2-0 lead to draw level with Cape Town City at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday.

Orlando Pirates were looking to climb the table in their pursuit of the Absa Premiership trophy this season.

Here’s how the players from each teams squared off in the match ratings on the night:

Mpontshane 5.5: In the first half he had little to do with City offering nothing going forward. Second half was found wanting and also let down by the defence as City came back from 2-0 down to draw the match 2-2. Not a good night for the goalkeeper.

Matlaba 6: Things looked very easy for Matlaba first half with his the right hand side of Pirates defence not penetrated. However all of that changed in the second stanza as Benni’s men led by second half substitute Martins pulled the pressure. The defence was eventually broken.

(Shonga 5.5)

Maela: 7.5: The Pirates left back scored a well-timed header to mark his return to the side after an injury. However his defensive duties were questionable on the night as City were allowed to come back.

Nyauza 5.5: Just like the rest of other Buccaneers defence, Nyauza hardly had ant thing to do first half but was heavily exposed in the second half.

Jele 5.5: Struggled to deal with the physicality of City’s striker Siphelele Mthembu late in the second half. Jele was all over the place in defence and had no answers.

Motshwari 6.5: He had a good game, dictated the tempo of the match first half and was always in control of things in the middle of the park. However in the second half completely lost the shape.

Mlambo 6.5: Forever cool, calm and collected in the center of the field. Mlambo ran the show and was a threat going forward. Very composed on the ball and looked to hurt City with through passes.

Lorch 7: Provided a beautiful assist to Mulenga early in the match. Was a constant menace for Mngonyama, but failed to keep up the good work second half.

(Mntambo 5)

Pule 6: Forever penetrating on the wings, Pule always gives it all when he steps on to the pitch. Tonight it was the same story. He gave a lot of problems to City defence, but went quiet late in the second half.

(64′ Memela 5)

Mako 7: A very good left footer. One of the emerging stars in S.A. football. Mako had a decent game on the left hand side and delivered many dangerous balls that should have been  finished off.

Mulenga 8: Very strong and skillfull striker. He did not disappoint as he slotted home with a fine finish after Lorch gave a pass of the century.

Leeuwenburgh 5.5: Heavily let down by a sluggish defence first half which allowed Maela and Mulenga to score easily. But second half it was a much improved performance.

Cupido 5.5: Coming in as a replace for injured captain Mkhize, there will be a lot of positives to take from his performance on the night

(’67 Martin)

Mngonyama 6: The former Sundowns man should have done better with a Mulenga goal first half. But that mistake did not kill his spirit as he went all out second half and made sure the back door is shut.

Kouadja 6: Also replacing suspended Fielies, there was an immense pressure for the youngster but he handled it very well, apart from first half mistakes.

Edmilson 6: Very strong defender and does not allow many to go past him. First half struggled considering he hasn’t played many games this season but recovered second half and helped the team come back.

Putsche 6.5: After a horrific injury suffered against Free State Stars few weeks back, many did not expect Putsche to be back so soon. The captain on the night struggled to keep up with the likes of Mlambo first half but gained confidence second half.

Nodada 6.5: A man that they compare to Chelsea and France midfielder N’Golo Kante was at it again today, breaking plays and winning the ball from the opposition. Very quiet first half but turned into life in the second.

Patosi 9.5: World class performance from Patosi. Scored two sublime goals that took a point to Cape Town.

Norodien 5.5: Struggles against his former team. The winger had a couple of shots first half but was hardly effective.

(’83 Kateregga)

Links 5.5: Still very young but with a bright future, forever causing trouble on the right side of opposition’s defence Links however had a quiet game tonight.

Rusike 6: The former Kaizer Chiefs man always try to work extra hard when given a chance and tonight it was no difference. His efforts are always admirable.

(’60 Mthembu)
